Last month I attended Big City Mom’s Biggest Baby Shower event in Potomac, MD. I got to attend this event with one of my best friends who’s also with child and my husband. My friend and I bought our tickets about six weeks prior to the event (luckily we were able to get discounted early bird pricing). I purchased a super pass ticket that came with a Tula Carrier and early entry into the the event, however, We ended up not getting to use the early entry because during our two hour trek from Delaware to Potomac, MD we got stuck in traffic twice. We got to the event a little after 6pm.
Check-In and Seminars
We checked in and got our bingo cards (we had to get vendors/reps to sign them in order to trade them in for a gift at the end of the event) and information about seminars. There were three seminars on topics of baby product must haves, the birth experience and cloth diapering. The seminars were somewhat informative. My friend nor I are first time moms so a lot of the things that were discussed we were already knowledgeable about. The seminar I most enjoyed was Your Pregnancy and Newborn Plan: Pregnancy Wellness and Preparing for Your Arrival. The panel was made up of a chiropractor, a labor doula and a postpartum doula. A postpartum doula is a profession whose job is to supply parents of newborns with support and information. I learned from this seminar that I definitely need a postpartum doula. However, I’d have to move to DC because I wanted the postpartum doula who was on the panel because she had the greatest personality and was so upbeat. Luckily, after I bring home baby I’ll have plenty of support as my mom is here and I’ll have friends and family coming to help out too.
Vendors
Moving on to the vendors. The event advertised that there would be over 100 different vendors at the baby shower. My friend and I are in agreement that we definitely did not see even 100 different vendors and the venue did not seem large enough to have that mean vendors. I was disappointed that the majority of the vendors who were there did not have products for purchase. There were a few vendors who had merchandise to sell and very few of the vendors had discount codes for later purchases. I did discover a product that I fell in love with and that’s the BabyOta (more about this later). It was one of the few products I wasn’t already familiar with prior to the event. Another product I liked was the Bubula diaper pail, which I’d heard of, but had never seen in person. I really wish there had been more vendors and more things available for purchase. The majority of the vendor present were high end baby product and service companies. I wish there had been more of a variety at different price points.
Food
I give the food 3 out of 5 stars. There were hor d’oeuvres served where the majority of the vendors were located and some of the companies that were there were bakeries so cupcakes and yummy treats galore. I think I enjoyed the Brewster’s icecream the most.
Prizes
At each seminar prizes were raffled off and you had to turn in your bingo card once you won something. I didn’t care for how that very much, but everything left with a special baby shower gift. I ended up with a Joovy Bottle gift set and my friend a Ergo Swaddler giftset that she won at one of the seminars.
Gift Bags
I was very happy with the swag that I received. I also liked that swag bags and baby shower gifts were picked up at the end of the event so we didn’t have to lug everything around the venue. Our tickets included Tula carriers which I was really excited about. I was a little bummed that they were all the same color I was looking forward to potentially trading prints with other moms, but I’m still happy with mine. Ultimate Pass ticket holders got Britax strollers with their swag which was cool. I intend to do lots of reviews on the products I received in my swag bag and from the vendors. So keep a eye out for those once Baby T’Challa gets here.
Overall Opinion
Overall I enjoyed the Biggest Baby Shower because I was hanging out with friend and I had fun, however, I don’t think I’ll be attending another. I feel like the Biggest Baby Shower targeted a demographic that did not really include me as a veteran mom on budget with a crunchy side. Although I don’t think I’ll attend again I would not discourage anyone else from going especially new moms. There is a lot of information to be soaked up and I think this event would be more beneficial for new moms.
